Full Name: Kelli Jenai Harper
Age: Twenty-one
Profession: actress (or aspiring actress, however you prefer)
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Appearance: Long, wavy auburn hair frames Kelli’s pale face. The only makeup she normally wears is lip gloss and eyeliner, and that is usually enough (sometimes more than enough) for her. The eyeliner, doing its job, brings out her stormy blue-gray eyes to the point where she seems almost ethereal. Kelli is very petite, but then again, size is no guarantee of power. Her height maxes out at 5’2”, tops, when she’s not wearing heels (which is… never). With heels, she’s normally 5’5”; she doesn’t like to be short because she’s found that, in New York, people automatically look down on you if you don’t look like you can handle the nuts they can dish out.
Personality: If you asked anyone to describe Kelli Harper in a word, they would probably say something along the lines of “insane”, “crazy”, “extreme”, “wild”, you get the idea. Aside from her ‘out there’ looks, Kelli is totally, perhaps overly, committed to her dreams and aspirations. She’s more devoted to performing than a heroin addict to their injections (yeah I know, it’s bad, but still…). The thing is, performing on that big open stage is the first place where Kelli’s actually felt like she belongs, and she doesn’t want anyone to take that from her. Kelli has an outgoing, confident personality onstage. Off the stage is a different matter entirely; it’s almost as if she’s two different people. If someone met her on a normal day (as opposed to a performance day), they’d probably never guess she was an actress. She doesn’t always project the confident air and crazy demeanor, quite the opposite of what people think.
Family: mother, Mandi Harper (deceased)
History: Kelli grew up in the Bronx with her junkie mom, who died two years ago. Kelli still isn’t over it because the doctors still haven’t been able to tell Kelli whether it was due to AIDS or heroin overdose. Needless to say, for that she has developed a quiet resentment toward all doctors. Mandi Harper was only 27 years old when she died. As Kelli had grown, Mandi had supported their family, and her own personal addiction, by wandering the streets with her old acoustic guitar. Kelli would accompany her sometimes, practicing her vocal skills to the delight of passersby.
When she was just a little girl, around ten or so, Kelli often had to go to the store by herself, to buy groceries because her mom was asleep in their grungy apartment. She would also, inevitably, have to seek out the drug dealers hanging around street corners, to get more smack for her mom. Walking around alone as a child, bartering drugs off the street dealers, made her decide never to become addicted to anything that would physically or mentally harm herself.
Kelli moved to the Lower East Side two years ago, after caring for her ailing mother as much as she possibly could, just to get away from all the bad memories the Bronx held for her. She could no longer stand walking down the streets and seeing the same man who had sold her mother’s drugs there on the corner every few nights.
Talents: Kelli is a very gifted singer and actress. She’ll walk down the street and randomly bust out a song or two, and by the time she’s home she’s made fifty dollars. She’s not very good at coming up with her own songs, but her apartment does have a radio and she sings whatever song is stuck in her head for the day.
Anything Else?: Nope.
